The period between training and assessment varies in length for each person and is an opportunity to develop your skills, paying particular attention to any weaknesses identified during the training course. Once you have completed the training and gained the required experience you can attend the 2-day (16 hour) assessment course.

Once you have completed an RCI training course and gained the required experience you can attend the 2-day (16 hours) assessment course.

Requirements to attend an RCI assessment course:

  • Completed RCI training or gained exemption from training
  •  Competently lead Severe grade (and have logged a minimum of 20 lead climbs)
  •  You need to have logged 40 lead routes which must be graded rock climbs with traditional protection
  • You need to have logged 30 lead routes at a climbing wall (10 of which must be outdoor bolt protected sport climbs)
  •  You need to have logged 20 instructional sessions (10 indoor climbing and 10 on outdoor crags)
  •  You need to have completed a 16 hour first aid course. We recommend Active First Aid by Katherine Wills

The 2 day assessment course will include a session at a local climbing wall and candidates will be tested in accordance with the syllabus requirements.

    Booking a Course:
    When you have decided on a course date you will need to complete and submit a booking form.

    On receipt of the booking form we will issue a course programme and an invoice.

    A place on a course can only be confirmed once a deposit or full payment is received. Please note that deposits can be paid for Summer Mountain Leader courses only. Payment in full, up front is required for all other courses: Rock Climbing Instructor & Hill & Moorland Leader.

    Course Payment:
    If paying a deposit, the balance of the course fee is due six weeks (42 days) prior to the course start date.

    Payment can be made ideally by bank transfer or by cheque (made payable to P.George and posted to the address below)

    Amendment / Cancellation by the Customer:
    All cancellations must be in writing (email) and acknowledged by Phill George Mountaineering.

    All deposit payments are non-refundable.

    If you cancel your place on a course within 6 weeks (42 days) of the course start date, on the commencement date of the course, or during / after the course, we will not be able to refund your payment.

    If you wish to amend your booking (change to another course date) within the 6 week (42 day) cancellation / amendment period, we will do our best to try and fill your original place.

    If we are unable to fill this place we are unable to offer you a refund and you will need to make a new booking.

    We recommend that you take out personal insurance to cover cancellation on your part.

    Amendment / Cancellation by Phill George Mountaineering:
    Every attempt is made to ensure that courses run but in the event of cancellation by Phill George Mountaineering we will notify you as soon as possible.

    You will be offered a full refund for the course fee paid or have the option of joining another course on a different date.

    In the event of cancellation by Phill George Mountaineering we will not be liable and are unable to reimburse any travel or accommodation expenses incurred.

    Safety Statement:
    All Mountaineering courses can be physically demanding and you need to ensure that you are fit to participate in the activities booked and understand the physical demands involved.

    Climbing and mountaineering activities can be hazardous and can involve an element of risk of injury / death.

    You will need to take responsibility for your own actions and involvement during the course and abide by safety decisions made by the group Instructor.

    Photographs::
    Photographs are occasionally taken during our courses.

    Please tick the box if you do not wish to have your photo published on our website or used in any form of advertising for Phill George Mountaineering.

    Insurance:
    Phill George Mountaineering has full public liability cover.

    We advise you to take out your own personal sports insurance (Please make sure that this insurance covers you for the activities you will be taking part in.)

    As mentioned earlier, you may also wish to take out insurance that will cover you for cancellation on your part.
